Product Description of Dicyandiamide CAS#461-58-5

Dicyandiamide (DICY/DCD) is a cyanamide dimer and guanidine cyano derivative, appearing as a white crystalline powder. It dissolves in water, alcohol, ethylene glycol and DMF, but is nearly insoluble in ether and benzene. It is non-flammable and stable in dry state.

As one of the earliest latent thermal curing agents, DICY remains solid and insoluble in epoxy resin at room temperature, dispersing as fine particles. It dissolves upon heating and cures rapidly near its melting point.

Its aqueous solution decomposes slowly above 80 °C and releases amonia. When heated to melting point, DICY melts with strong exotherm, forming melamine, cyanuric acid and other by-products.


Product Application of Dicyandiamide CAS#461-58-5

Dicyandiamide has four major applications:(1) Raw material for guanidine salts and melamine. It reacts with acids to produce various guanidine salts. Its reaction product with phenyl nitrile, benzyl melamine, serves as an intermediate for coatings, laminates and molding powders.(2) Dye fixing agent. Dicyandiamide-formaldehyde resin can be used as a dye fixing agent.(3) Fertilizer additive. Dicyandiamide compound fertilizer inhibits nitrifying bacteria, regulates soil nitrogen conversion, reduces nitrogen loss and improves fertilizer efficiency.
